InterTREKtional explores two very special episodes about being born this way and asks: did they get it right? First, Ryan and Becca look at Enterprise’s “Stigma,” (S2:E14) which compares a Vulcan neurological disorder to AIDS. Then, they discuss TNG’s “The Outcast,” (S5:E4) about a genderless alien who secretly identifies as a woman.

Correction: In the episode, Becca states that Title IX is the statue that prohibits workplace sexual harassment. In fact, it is Title VII which does this: “Title VII prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex and national origin” and caselaw has made it clear that sexual harassment in the workplace is a form of sex-based discrimination. Title IX, on the other hand, “protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance.”
